what is thermal paper?
Thermal paper, or receipt paper, is a type of processed paper made by applying a “thermal layer” (thermochromic layer) to a high-quality base paper so that the paper can change color when exposed to heat without the use of ink or dye.
Thermal paper is a special type of paper that is coated with a heat-sensitive material. When heat is applied to the paper, typically through a thermal printer or fax machine, the coating reacts and creates an image or text. Thermal paper is commonly used for printing receipts, tickets, and labels in retail stores, restaurants, and other businesses.
There are two types of thermal paper: direct thermal and thermal transfer. Direct thermal paper works by applying heat directly to the paper, which causes a chemical reaction that produces the image. On the other hand, thermal transfer paper uses a heated ribbon to transfer ink onto the paper.
Thermal paper is popular because it is fast, efficient, and produces high-quality, long-lasting images. However, it can also be sensitive to light, heat, and other environmental factors, which can cause the images to fade over time.
is receipt paper toxic?
So the principle of receipt paper, and then to famous science receipt paper, is toxic. Is receipt paper not harmful? The main component of the thermal roll is bisphenol A. Bisphenol A has “certain” toxicity. Still, although bisphenol A is toxic, it is a low-toxicity chemical, at room temperature, very stable, without a specific dose, and will not harm the human body. Therefore, we come into contact with all kinds of heat-sensitive paper, and the toxicity can be ignored!
In the meantime, sailing has also launched BPA-free thermal paper. Here is how to tell whether the receipt paper contains BPA. To make a better judgment, we also recorded a comparison video. You can see that the surface of the two rolls of pos paper roasted by fire will show two different colors. So if you need, please send us an inquiry. We have BPA-free thermal paper rolls in stock. Same-day delivery.
Is receipt paper recyclable?
Receipt paper is generally not recyclable in the traditional sense because it is coated with a layer of chemicals that make it heat-sensitive and capable of producing images through thermal printing. The coating on the paper typically contains bisphenol A (BPA) or bisphenol S (BPS), which can harm the environment if they enter the water supply.
However, some companies have developed alternative thermal paper coatings that are more environmentally friendly and can be recycled. These coatings do not contain BPA or BPS and can be safely recycled with other paper products. It’s important to check with your local recycling center to see if they accept these paper products.

It’s worth noting that these sizes may vary based on the specific use case and printer model. Some countries may also use metric sizes such as millimeters instead of inches.
